About the Role
Concern on Climate Change for the Community Initiative (FOURCi) is seeking a dedicated and passionate VSLA Assistant to support our community-level interventions in Northeast Nigeria. FOURCi is a dynamic non-profit organization uniting academics, environmentalists, agricultural experts, health professionals, and community volunteers to safeguard our climate and empower vulnerable populations. Operating extensively across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states, our core thematic areas include livelihood enhancement, climate-smart agriculture, gender-based violence protection, nutrition, environmental sustainability, and WASH. As a VSLA Assistant, you will play a vital role in mobilizing communities, establishing Village Savings and Loans Associations, and fostering financial resilience among beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate the mobilization, sensitization, and formation of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) within targeted communities.
- Train VSLA groups on financial literacy, record keeping, share-out procedures, and internal lending mechanisms.
- Monitor ongoing VSLA group activities, providing continuous mentorship and technical support to ensure sustainability and transparency.
- Collaborate with field officers to collect accurate data, track project indicators, and prepare routine progress reports.
- Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure active participation and local ownership of livelihood initiatives.
- Support the integration of climate-smart agriculture and livelihood sensitization messages into VSLA group meetings.
- Candidates should possess a relevant degree or National Diploma in Agriculture, Economics, Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field.
- Proven field experience in community mobilization, livelihoods programming, or microfinance initiatives, particularly within NGO settings in Northern Nigeria.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills with the ability to work effectively in diverse rural communities.
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural and humanitarian context of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states is a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in local languages spoken in the Northeast region is highly desirable.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle or willingness to travel frequently to remote project locations.
