About the Role

APM Terminals, a global leader in port operations and container management, is looking for a proactive and safety-driven HSE Officer to join our team in Nigeria. In this critical role, you will help safeguard our personnel, contractors, and assets while fostering a proactive safety culture across our busy terminal environment operating on a 12-hour rotational shift schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the terminal's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management System.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits, and compliance assessments, recommending and monitoring effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging HSE regulations, industry standards, and best practices to strengthen operational safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions using root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, regulatory agencies, and external partners to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and documentation while supporting compliance requirements.
  • Deliver HSE awareness and training initiatives for employees and third parties while supporting safe terminal operations.
Qualifications
  • A university degree, HND or its equivalent in Environmental Management, Engineering or any Health and Safety related fields.
  • NEBOSH and/or IOSH Certification is highly desirable, with active membership of ISPON preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of HSE experience, preferably within port operations, logistics, industrial, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments.
  • Practical experience in dangerous goods handling, emergency response, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to operate within a dynamic port terminal environment.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and Microsoft Office skills with a disciplined approach to compliance.
