About the Role
Loochi Investment Ltd is a reputable lending firm dedicated to providing accessible financial services to underserved entrepreneurs and small business owners across Nigeria. We are seeking a results-driven and community-oriented Verification Officer to join our dynamic risk management team. In this role, your primary responsibility is conducting independent, rigorous physical and documentary verifications of prospective borrowers, business locations, residential addresses, guarantors, and collateral to ensure portfolio health and prevent fraudulent activities.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct mandatory physical visitations to the residential and business premises of loan applicants and guarantors.
- Verify the physical existence, operational legitimacy, and scale of applicants' business operations.
- Assess neighborhood reputation, business foot traffic, and informal credit standing through discreet local inquiries.
- Verify physical existence, location, condition, and ownership status of pledged collateral or assets.
- Authenticate original identity documents including national IDs, driver's licenses, passports, and voter cards.
- Cross-check proof of address using utility bills, tenancy agreements, and local government letters.
- Inspect business registration documents, licenses, tax receipts, and bank statements for signs of alteration, forgery, or inconsistency.
- Confirm employment details and salary statements directly with employers where applicable.
- Identify potential fraud risks, impersonation attempts, misrepresented income, or undisclosed liabilities.
- Detect signs of circular borrowing, ghost businesses, or front companies and collaborate with management to clarify discrepancies.
- Participate in periodic risk audit reviews and assist in post-disbursement monitoring when suspicious activity is flagged.
- Minimum of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields.
- Proven field experience in risk assessment, credit verification, or audit roles within the financial services sector.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for conducting discreet local inquiries.
- High integrity, objectivity, and the ability to work independently in the field.
