About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research-for-development organization committed to enhancing food security and reducing poverty across Africa. We are currently seeking a qualified and dynamic Nigerian national to fill the role of Utility Manager at our headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State. In this critical position, you will oversee the reliable, safe, and sustainable operation of our institutional utility infrastructure, supporting our world-class campus environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations of utility systems including diesel generators, solar panels, electrical distribution, water treatment and supply, and wastewater management.
  • Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance and repair schedules for utility equipment with technicians and external service providers.
  • Monitor and analyze utility consumption data to identify efficiency trends and implement robust conservation measures.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets for utilities while coordinating the procurement of fuel, chemicals, and spare parts.
  • Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards, including emission and water quality benchmarks.
  • Respond promptly to utility emergencies such as power outages and equipment failures to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate on capital projects to plan the integration of new utility infrastructure and renewable energy upgrades.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for utility assets, regulatory permits, and maintenance logs.

Qualifications
  • Possession of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Mandatory possession of NATE or COREN certification.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant professional experience in managing electrical distribution systems, power generation equipment, water production facilities, and general utility infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in electrical installations and water treatment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills with exceptional communication abilities.
