About the Role
Extension Africa (EXAF) is a data-driven agritech platform providing private extension services to agricultural value chain actors. We are currently seeking a dynamic and results-driven State-Based Program Officer to spearhead our donor-funded development initiatives in Bauchi State. In this critical field role, you will translate strategic work plans into impactful grassroots activities, train smallholder farmers and extension agents, and drive the adoption of climate-smart and digital agriculture practices. You will also bridge development and commerce by building last-mile rural networks for a seamless handover to our commercial sales teams. Residency in Bauchi State is compulsory for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the implementation of donor-funded agricultural development projects and work plans across Bauchi State.
- Train farmers and grassroots extension agents on climate-smart agriculture and ICT4Ag digital tools.
- Ensure high data quality and timely reporting in alignment with project results frameworks.
- Build, recruit, and certify last-mile rural structures including Farmer Business Associates, cooperatives, and vendors.
- Coordinate closely with state and local government structures, ensuring strong stakeholder engagement.
- Facilitate the smooth handover of verified rural structures to the Commercial Arm's State Sales Team.
- B.Sc Degree or HND in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, Crop/Soil Science, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in agricultural or rural development projects, preferably within NGO or donor-funded environments.
- Hands-on expertise in climate-smart agriculture and ICT4Ag applications.
- Proficiency in digital data collection tools such as ODK, KoboCollect, and advanced MS Excel.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting or managing community-level agents and farmer networks.
- Fluency in English and the predominant local language spoken in Bauchi State.
- Must be currently resident in or willing to relocate to Bauchi State.
