About the Role

Nutrition International (NI) is a global not-for-profit organization dedicated to combating malnutrition and delivering sustainable health solutions. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Program Officer for our Child Survival program based in Jigawa, Nigeria. In this critical role, you will provide high-level technical support, strategic planning, and implementation oversight at state and Local Government Area (LGA) levels in Jigawa and Katsina states. Your primary focus will be coordinating Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Weeks (MNCHW) to improve the quality, coverage, and impact of vitamin A supplementation and essential health interventions for vulnerable children and mothers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) and child survival programs across Jigawa and Katsina states.
  • Manage, mentor, and supervise a team of 2 state coordinators and over 20 LGA-level coordinators to ensure high performance and impactful deliverables.
  • Develop project budgets, monitor financial commitments, and update financial systems in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health, government agencies, UN bodies, and local NGO stakeholders to strengthen health systems and community uptake.
  • Support research, evaluation, and knowledge translation initiatives, contributing to policy briefs, case studies, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Postgraduate degree (Master's minimum) in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in child survival, health, and nutrition programs within low-resource or developing country settings, with a minimum of 3 years of field experience.
  • Extensive experience managing grant-funded health and nutrition programs, specifically within Northern Nigeria.
  • In-depth understanding of Nigerian health systems, local community structures, and proven experience working in Jigawa and/or Katsina states.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in motivating, managing, and guiding cross-functional teams in challenging environments.
