About the Role
247Bet is a next-generation sports betting and gaming platform built for Africa's vibrant, connected audience. We combine social interaction, entertainment, and responsible gaming to create an experience that goes beyond placing bets by fostering community and connection. We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team in Lagos on a hybrid basis (3 days in-office per week). In this role, you will build the core systems that move real money in real time, including our wallet, bet engine, live betting, settlement, copy-betting infrastructure, and social feed using modern .NET on AWS.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and ship backend services in C# and .NET 8+ across wallet, betting, settlement, and social domains.
- Build event-driven systems on Kafka with exactly-once semantics for high-stakes financial transactions.
- Model and optimize data in PostgreSQL, leveraging Redis for caching and real-time state management.
- Integrate seamlessly with third-party providers including odds feeds, payment gateways, KYC, and fraud tooling.
- Write well-tested, observable, production-grade code and take full ownership of your services in production.
- Optimize system architectures for real-world Nigerian conditions, ensuring robust idempotency and handling unreliable networks.
- Collaborate closely with frontend and mobile engineers to establish clean, efficient API contracts.
- Mentor mid-level engineers and help elevate the overall engineering standards of the team.
- Minimum of 5 years of backend engineering experience with deep, hands-on expertise in C# and .NET.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, event-driven architecture, and data modeling.
- Production experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and message brokers like Kafka.
- Solid cloud experience with AWS preferred, alongside familiarity with Kubernetes and EKS.
- A proven track record of building high-correctness systems such as payment gateways, ledgers, or trading platforms.
