About the Role
Kursi Group Limited is one of Nigeria's leading diversified conglomerates with operations spanning mining, mineral processing, engineering, and infrastructure, maintaining major footprints in Kwara and Plateau States. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Officer to join our dynamic team and support the Head of HSE in enforcing a strict zero-harm safety culture across our active operational sites. This role is dedicated strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), focusing on field risk assessments, heavy equipment traffic safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily safety walk-throughs across mining pits, processing plants, and workshops to identify and address unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist operational teams in performing Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA).
- Prepare and deliver daily pre-shift safety toolbox talks and conduct OHS inductions for all new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Enforce the Traffic Management Plan, including heavy equipment exclusion zones, blind spot awareness, and speed limit compliance.
- Respond promptly to workplace accidents, near-misses, and first-aid cases while conducting initial root-cause investigations.
- Monitor occupational health protocols, including heat stress management, fatigue monitoring, and proper PPE usage.
- Inspect and verify Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) compliance during maintenance and audit high-risk work permits.
- B.Sc, HND, or OND in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Mandatory professional OHS certification such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, or ISPON.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of direct safety experience in open-pit mining, quarrying, heavy civil construction, or industrial operations.
- Strong technical knowledge of mine safety regulations, LOTO protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent communication, hazard reporting, and leadership skills with proficiency in MS Office applications.
