About the Role

The Big Smile Foundation (TBSF) is a leading humanitarian actor in Nigeria dedicated to empowering women and girls to be self-reliant, ending violence, and fighting poverty. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding and Accountability Officer to join our dynamic team and drive our safeguarding and accountability strategies across project locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of safeguarding and accountability strategies across project locations.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational safeguarding policies, donor standards, and national protection guidelines.
  • Conduct safeguarding risk assessments for project activities and recommend effective mitigation measures.
  • Train project staff, volunteers, media facilitators, and stakeholders on safeguarding principles, PSEA, and gender sensitivity.
  • Establish confidential complaint and response mechanisms and manage safeguarding concerns in line with approved protocols.
  • Coordinate survivor-centered referrals for health, psychosocial, legal, and protection services.
  • Work closely with LGA coordinators, community leaders, and health partners to strengthen local safeguarding systems.
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding records and prepare periodic compliance and progress reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Gender Studies, Law, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in safeguarding, child protection, GBV prevention, or protection programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the humanitarian sector on donor-funded projects or community-based interventions.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding standards, child protection frameworks, PSEA protocols, and gender inclusion principles.
  • Fluent in English and proficiency in Kanuri or Hausa language is an added advantage.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
