About the Role

The Sahara Centre (TSC) is a Lagos-based non-profit organisation that explores how indigenous knowledge systems can drive innovation and development across Africa. We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated Researcher for a fixed-term position of three or six months. In this role, you will engage in independent and collaborative research that advances our intellectual agenda, taking charge of our esteemed academic and policy publications while connecting communities, policymakers, and creators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute original research aligned with the Centre's intellectual frameworks and current priorities.
  • Apply rigorous quantitative or qualitative research methods appropriate to each specific inquiry.
  • Manage research timelines, milestones, and deliverables efficiently against agreed targets.
  • Contribute actively to academic and policy publications that influence African development.
  • Supervise junior researchers, interns, or graduate assistants as required.

Qualifications
  • PhD in development studies, African studies, political economy, or a related discipline, though strong Master's degree holders or PhD candidates nearing completion will be considered.
  • Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals or comparable academic and policy outlets.
  • Strong grounding in indigenous knowledge frameworks and African development scholarship.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with fluency in an African language serving as an added advantage.
