About the Role
Malaria Consortium is looking for a detail-oriented and committed Research Assistant to join our team in Yobe. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria), contributing to essential research that informs national health planning, case management protocols, and malaria control strategies across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Identify severe malaria cases from hospital registers, case notes, and emergency department logs.
- Collaborate with medical record officers to retrieve and review patient files for retrospective data extraction covering 2021 to 2025.
- Capture comprehensive patient data—including demographics, clinical presentations, laboratory findings, treatments, and outcomes—using electronic data capture systems like SurveyCTO.
- Document comorbidities, complications, pre-referral treatments, and discharge statuses accurately.
- Respond to data queries from the project technical team, NMEP, and SMEP in a timely manner.
- Ensure all identified cases and extracted records are successfully submitted according to project standards.
- Minimum of a diploma or degree in a health-related science course, or qualification as a registered nurse/midwife.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of the designated project hospital in Yobe.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient healthcare delivery and clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with secondary, tertiary, and private healthcare facilities and hospital record systems.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic data capture platforms for health reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with training in health research ethics being an added advantage.
- Gain valuable experience working with an internationally recognized non-governmental health organization.
- Contribute directly to high-impact public health research shaping national malaria policies and pediatric care.
- Collaborate with key health sector stakeholders, government institutions, and public health experts.
