About the Role
Malaria Consortium is recruiting a dedicated Research Assistant for Taraba State to support the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria). This multi-centre retrospective cohort study aims to generate critical age-specific insights into severe malaria morbidity and mortality among children and adolescents, guiding future health policies and control strategies in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with medical record officers to retrieve inpatient medical records, laboratory registers, and emergency department logs.
- Identify severe malaria cases and extract accurate data using an electronic data capture system (SurveyCTO).
- Record vital patient demographics, clinical presentations, laboratory results, treatment details, comorbidities, and outcomes.
- Respond promptly to data queries and requests from the project technical team, NMEP, and SMEP.
- Ensure timely submission of validated data collected from assigned health facilities.
- Minimum of a diploma or degree in a health-related discipline, or certification as a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of the project hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient healthcare settings and clinical data collection.
- Proficiency in using electronic data capture platforms and mobile reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of secondary, tertiary, and private healthcare systems in Nigeria.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with training in health research ethics being an added advantage.
