About the Role
Malaria Consortium is a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to controlling and eliminating malaria and other communicable diseases. We are looking for a dedicated Research Assistant in Rivers to join our team for the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria). This multi-centre retrospective cohort study aims to gather critical age-specific insights into severe malaria morbidity and mortality among children and adolescents, ultimately guiding national health policies and control strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Review patient registers and case notes to identify eligible severe malaria cases for children and adolescents aged 0-20 years.
- Collaborate closely with medical record officers to retrieve, extract, and digitize inpatient data using the SurveyCTO electronic data capture platform.
- Accurately capture patient demographics, clinical presentations, laboratory findings, treatment details, comorbidities, and clinical outcomes.
- Ensure high standards of data quality and respond promptly to data queries from the project technical team and public health partners.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient records and adhere to established health research ethics throughout the data collection process.
- Minimum of a diploma or degree in a health-related course, or qualification as a registered nurse or midwife.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of the project health facility.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient care and familiarity with secondary, tertiary, or private hospital systems.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic data capture platforms and mobile tools for health reporting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with an understanding of diverse cultural environments.
