About the Role
Malaria Consortium is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to support the DISBURMA Study, a critical multi-centre retrospective cohort study aimed at disaggregating the burden of severe malaria among pediatric and adolescent populations in Nigeria. In this role, you will play a vital part in generating essential age-specific insights to guide future health system planning, case management protocols, and national malaria control strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Receive comprehensive briefings from the Malaria and Public Health team on study protocols and data collection tools.
- Identify severe malaria cases from hospital registers, patient case notes, and emergency department logs.
- Collaborate closely with medical record officers to retrieve, review, and accurately extract patient data.
- Capture detailed clinical information including demographics, admission dates, diagnoses, pre-referral and parenteral treatments, and clinical outcomes using SurveyCTO.
- Record laboratory findings, comorbidities, complications, and referral histories into the electronic database.
- Respond promptly to data queries and requests from the project technical team and key national stakeholders.
- Minimum of a diploma in a health-related course, or hold qualifications as a registered nurse or midwife.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of a designated project hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient care and working within secondary, tertiary, or private healthcare facilities.
- Proven experience in using electronic platforms to capture, manage, and report health data.
- Familiarity with health research ethics and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Prior experience collaborating with government institutions, NGOs, or academic research bodies is an added advantage.
