About the Role
Malaria Consortium is a leading international organization dedicated to controlling and eliminating malaria and other communicable diseases. We are currently implementing the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria) to provide critical age-specific insights into severe malaria morbidity and mortality among children and adolescents. We are seeking a detail-oriented and committed Research Assistant based in Kano to ensure accurate data collection from hospital records to guide future health interventions.
Key Responsibilities- Receive comprehensive briefings from the Malaria and Public Health team on study protocols and data collection tools.
- Identify and retrieve severe malaria cases from inpatient medical records, laboratory registers, and emergency logs.
- Collaborate with medical record officers to extract patient demographics, clinical presentations, treatments, and outcomes.
- Enter and submit abstracted data accurately into the electronic data capture system (SurveyCTO).
- Respond to data queries from the project technical team and national health partners promptly.
- Minimum of a diploma in a health-related course, or hold a qualification as a registered nurse/midwife.
- Currently working in the pediatric or medical ward of the project hospital as a staff member or volunteer.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient healthcare settings and medical record management.
- Proficiency in using electronic data capture platforms and mobile reporting tools.
- Strong communication skills and familiarity with local health facility operations in Kano.
- Prior training in health research ethics is an added advantage.
