About the Role
Malaria Consortium is a leading international organization dedicated to controlling and eliminating malaria and other communicable diseases. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria) in Jigawa State. This multi-centre retrospective cohort study aims to provide critical age-specific insights into severe malaria morbidity and mortality, guiding future health policies and clinical protocols across Nigeria.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in data collection and record management at designated health facilities. Your specific daily tasks will include:
- Identifying severe malaria cases from hospital registers, case notes, and pediatric emergency logs for patients aged 0 to 20 years.
- Collaborating with medical record officers to retrieve, review, and extract patient data using standardized electronic data capture tools (SurveyCTO).
- Capturing comprehensive clinical details, including patient demographics, dates of admission and discharge, severe malaria diagnoses, pre-referral and parenteral treatments, and clinical outcomes.
- Documenting vital signs, laboratory test results, comorbidities, complications, and referral timelines accurately.
- Responding promptly to data queries and coordination requests from the project technical team, NMEP, and SMEP.
To be considered for this vital research role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a minimum of a diploma or degree in a health-related course, or be a registered nurse/midwife with relevant clinical experience.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of the project hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient care and medical record management.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic data capture platforms and mobile health reporting tools.
- Strong familiarity with secondary, tertiary, and private healthcare environments in Nigeria.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with cultural awareness and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Prior training in health research ethics is an added advantage.
