About the Role
Malaria Consortium is one of the world's leading non-profit organizations dedicated to comprehensive malaria control and public health service delivery in Africa and Asia. We are currently implementing the DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria) to generate critical age-specific evidence on severe malaria morbidity and mortality among children and adolescents aged 0 to 20 years. We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support data collection and health record extraction across designated health facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Key Responsibilities- Retrieve and review inpatient medical records, laboratory registers, and emergency logs to identify eligible severe malaria cases from 2021 to 2025.
- Collaborate closely with medical records officers to accurately extract patient data using standardized electronic data capture systems such as SurveyCTO.
- Capture comprehensive clinical variables including patient demographics, admission and discharge dates, clinical presentations, pre-referral treatments, and therapeutic outcomes.
- Document comorbidities, complications, laboratory findings, and supportive care details meticulously.
- Respond promptly to data queries and requests from the project technical team and public health partners.
- Minimum of a diploma or degree in nursing, midwifery, or other health-related sciences.
- Current deployment as a staff member or volunteer within the pediatric or medical ward of the project hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient healthcare delivery and clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with electronic data capture platforms and digital reporting tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse medical professionals.
- Prior training in health research ethics is considered a strong advantage.
