About the Role
Malaria Consortium Nigeria invites applications for a dynamic and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support the critical DISBURMA Study (Disaggregating the Burden of Severe Malaria in Paediatric Populations in Nigeria) in Delta state. This multi-centre retrospective cohort study aims to provide comprehensive, age-specific insights into severe malaria morbidity and mortality among children and adolescents up to 20 years of age, ultimately guiding national health policy and clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Receive briefings from the Malaria and Public Health team on study protocols and data collection tools.
- Identify and retrieve severe malaria cases from hospital registers, case notes, and emergency department logs.
- Collaborate closely with medical record officers to extract patient data accurately and securely.
- Capture comprehensive clinical variables including demographics, admission dates, pre-referral and parenteral treatments, clinical presentations, laboratory results, and treatment outcomes using SurveyCTO.
- Ensure timely electronic submission of extracted data and respond to data queries from the project technical team and national partners.
- Minimum of a diploma or degree in a health-related discipline, or a registered nurse/midwife qualification.
- Currently working as a staff member or volunteer in the pediatric or medical ward of the project health facility.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient care and familiarity with secondary, tertiary, or private hospital systems.
- Proficiency in using electronic platforms and mobile tools for data capture and reporting.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with previous training in health research ethics considered a strong advantage.
