About the Role
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation delivering emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and healthcare exclusion. As a Purchasing Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring optimal supply chain management for our operations across Africa and beyond.
Key Responsibilities- Execute daily purchasing activities at supply offices according to MSF protocols and international standards
- Analyse local markets, assess supplier competitiveness, and negotiate pricing to achieve optimal value for MSF commodities
- Maintain comprehensive supplier-item-price databases and communicate market updates to supervisors
- Process purchase orders with pre-selected suppliers, request invoices, and verify documentation accuracy
- Manage administrative and accounting procedures including order tracking, delivery verification, and advance management
- Support reception control processes and ensure proper filing and archiving of purchasing documentation
- Provide weekly order status updates to stakeholders and produce monthly/quarterly purchasing reports
- Assist in quality assurance initiatives and special projects as delegated
- Degree in Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline
- Minimum 2 years' experience in supply chain or related positions with MSF, NGOs, or humanitarian organisations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Hausa is advantageous
- Strong competencies in results orientation, teamwork, flexibility, and stress management
