About the Role

Chabash Development and Health Initiative (CDHI) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to community development and humanitarian response in Nigeria. We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer to coordinate all construction and civil works under the WFP-supported Integrated Food System and Resilience Project in Jakusko LGA, Yobe State. This role ensures top-tier quality control, technical integrity, safety, and structural compliance in building vital, climate-resilient community assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site selection, topographical, geological, and environmental assessments in collaboration with local authorities.
  • Provide technical supervision and quality control for civil works including solar-powered boreholes, water storage systems, grain storage warehouses, and market stalls.
  • Supervise contracted construction vendors and unskilled Cash-for-Work community laborers, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.
  • Develop simple, visual safety training modules in local languages to promote hazard identification and proper PPE usage.
  • Ensure infrastructure designs meet optimal accessibility, pest-proofing, ventilation, and perimeter security standards.
  • Coordinate closely with the local government Ministry of Works, WFP logistics sector, and Project Management Committees.
  • Enforce PSEA policies and integrate safety mechanisms such as site lighting and GBV referral pathways into all project designs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years of practical civil or agricultural engineering experience, including 2 to 3 years in rural infrastructure or disaster recovery within an NGO context.
  • Active professional registration with COREN or an equivalent national body is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, structural modeling tools, GIS mapping, and MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction activities and community labor in fragile or conflict-affected environments.
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian principles, SPHERE standards, and gender-inclusive practices.
