About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research-for-development organization committed to reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty across Africa. We are currently seeking a skilled Project Administration and Grants Specialist to join our dynamic team and drive operational excellence across our diverse portfolio of agricultural research projects.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee administrative, financial, and contractual processes to ensure seamless project execution. Key duties include:

  • Coordinate the preparation of multi-year project budgets, expenditure forecasts, and financial monitoring dashboards.
  • Manage sub-grants and partner agreements, tracking deliverables, financial reports, and milestone achievements.
  • Collaborate with scientists, finance teams, and institutional units to prepare accurate donor technical and financial reports.
  • Support proposal development by reviewing budgets, costings, and administrative documentation for new funding opportunities.
  • Facilitate project start-up, operational coordination, procurement tracking, and formal project closeout procedures.
Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this vital institutional role:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline, though exceptional Bachelor's degree holders with extensive experience will be considered.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in project administration, grants management, or financial coordination within an international NGO, research, or donor-funded environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with ERP or grants-management systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in donor compliance, sub-grant administration, and multi-project coordination.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
