The Federal University Lafia invites applications from suitably qualified and dynamic academics for the prestigious position of Professor of Psychiatry within the Faculty of Clinical Sciences. Established in 2011, our institution is committed to academic excellence, innovative research, and healthcare development in Nigeria. As a Professor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals, driving impactful psychiatric research, and elevating the standards of our medical college.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Professor of Psychiatry, you will be expected to:
- Provide academic and administrative leadership within the Department of Psychiatry and the Faculty of Clinical Sciences.
- Teach, mentor, and supervise undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees in psychiatry.
- Lead groundbreaking research initiatives and publish high-impact scholarly articles in reputable local and international journals.
- Supervise postgraduate students to the successful completion of their Master's and PhD degrees.
- Collaborate with university management and teaching hospitals to enhance psychiatric healthcare delivery and community outreach.
- Participate in curriculum development and departmental quality assurance processes.
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Must currently hold the rank of Professor or be exceptionally qualified Reader ready for promotion.
- Demonstrate a robust publication record with at least twenty (20) academic publications.
- Must possess sixteen (16) publications in print, out of which at least four (4) must be featured in three (3) different and regularly published foreign index journals.
- Provide verified evidence of successful supervision to completion of at least three (3) Master's degrees and one (1) PhD degree.
- Hold a recognized medical degree and relevant postgraduate fellowship qualifications in psychiatry (e.g., FWACP, FMCP, or equivalent).
The conditions of service are highly competitive, strictly adhering to the remuneration framework obtainable in Nigerian Federal Universities and as approved by the Federal University Lafia Governing Council.
