About the Role

Jhpiego, a global leader in health innovation affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, is seeking an experienced Principal Investigator / Scientific Research Expert (Consultant) to lead a high-profile national impact evaluation in Nigeria. Spanning all 36 states, this large-scale initiative will assess the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of a major public health program. We are looking for an exceptional research leader to drive technical excellence, oversee protocol validation, coordinate multidisciplinary field teams, and ensure rigorous evaluation standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the impact evaluation protocol review, validation, and registration with the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) of Nigeria.
  • Oversee the design, execution, and quality control of primary quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of technical leads, research managers, scientific writers, and field enumerators.
  • Lead technical editing and development of comprehensive evaluation reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, and high-impact peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Serve as the primary high-level technical expert and liaison to the Federal Ministry of Health, donors, and key national stakeholders.
  • Manage the peer-review publishing pipeline to ensure research discoveries are shared in leading international public health journals.

Qualifications
  • Primary Medical Degree (MD/MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution, coupled with an Advanced Degree in public health or a related field.
  • Minimum of 20 years of progressive post-qualification research leadership and survey coordination, with at least 5 years as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on large-scale health systems evaluations.
  • Extensive experience executing complex health evaluations funded by major multilateral institutions.
  • Robust academic publication footprint with multiple primary-authored papers in high-impact peer-reviewed medical and global health journals.
  • Deep operational familiarity with the Nigerian health system, state-level health structures, and cultural dynamics across geopolitical zones.
