About the Role
Ayikwa Publishing is an independent publishing company dedicated to bringing bold, meaningful stories to life. We work with creators to transform manuscripts into impactful books that reach readers around the world. We are currently seeking a talented Portrait Artist and Illustrator to join us on an exciting non-fiction book project featuring notable individuals tailored for children, adolescents, and adults.
Key Responsibilities- Create at least 20 individual, well-researched, and visually accurate portraits for publication.
- Maintain a consistent style, quality, and tone across the entire collection of artwork.
- Capture the distinct personality, character, and likeness of each subject.
- Ensure all illustrations are engaging, appropriate for a young audience, and suitable for a professional non-fiction book.
- Collaborate closely with the editorial team, meeting agreed project timelines and responding constructively to feedback.
- Strong, demonstrable experience in portrait illustration and fine arts.
- A robust portfolio showcasing previous portrait work and distinctive artistic style.
- Prior experience working on books, magazines, editorial illustrations, or similar publishing projects is preferred.
- Strong understanding of historical and visual accuracy when illustrating real people.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain consistent visual branding across multiple pieces.
- Competitive project-based compensation starting at N20,000 per portrait with opportunities for bulk project rate negotiations.
