About the Role
International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to delivering lifesaving health care and emergency relief to communities in crisis, while also building local capacity for long-term resilience. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Nurse Anesthetist to join our health team, providing safe and effective anesthesia care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role is critical to ensuring patient safety, comfort, and positive surgical outcomes, particularly in low-resource and humanitarian environments.
The Nurse Anesthetist will work closely with physician anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other health professionals to assess patients, develop anesthesia plans, and manage anesthesia-related care throughout the surgical process. The successful candidate will also contribute to quality improvement initiatives and may occasionally support sterilization duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Perform pre-anesthesia assessments and obtain informed consent from patients.
- Develop and implement anesthesia plans based on patient condition, procedure type, and available resources.
- Administer general, regional, or local anesthesia using appropriate techniques and agents.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, consciousness levels, and pain, adjusting anesthesia as required.
- Anticipate and manage anesthesia-related complications and emergencies promptly.
- Provide post-anesthesia recovery care and ensure smooth patient transition to the ward or ICU.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all anesthesia-related activities and outcomes.
- Ensure proper storage, usage, and disposal of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and drugs.
- Adhere to infection prevention, control measures, and waste management protocols.
- Perform sterilization duties when assigned, including cleaning instruments and preparing sterile trays.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives for anesthesia services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Postgraduate diploma or certificate in Nurse Anesthesia or equivalent.
- Valid license or registration to practice as a Nurse Anesthetist in Nigeria.
- Minimum of three years' relevant experience, preferably in a low-resource or humanitarian setting.
- Proficiency in anesthesia equipment, techniques, and drug administration.
- Ability to independently perform pre-anesthesia assessment, administration, and post-anesthesia care.
- Strong crisis management skills for handling anesthesia-related emergencies.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in challenging and dynamic environments.
