About the Role
ABIS Group, a leading player in Nigeria's growing livestock processing industry, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Veterinary Officer to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring animal health, welfare, disease surveillance, and regulatory compliance throughout our livestock processing chain, supporting our mission to meet local and international demand for high-quality, safe, and ethically produced livestock products.
As Veterinary Officer, you will be responsible for safeguarding food safety, animal welfare, and Halal compliance while ensuring strict adherence to national and international veterinary standards. You will work closely with regulatory bodies, certification agencies, and internal teams to uphold the highest standards of veterinary practice within a modern livestock processing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct ante-mortem inspections of all livestock entering the facility.
- Supervise post-mortem inspections and carcass disposition processes.
- Monitor and enforce animal welfare standards in lairage and processing areas.
- Implement disease surveillance, biosecurity, and emergency response protocols.
- Certify the fitness of animals and meat products for human consumption.
- Liaise with veterinary authorities, regulatory agencies, and certification bodies.
- Support export certification and traceability programs.
- Maintain accurate veterinary records, health reports, and compliance documentation.
- Participate actively in HACCP, ISO 22000, and other food safety management systems.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
- Valid Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) license.
- 3–7 years of experience in livestock processing, abattoir operations, or food production facilities.
- Strong knowledge of livestock diseases and food animal production.
- Sound understanding of international animal welfare standards.
- Working knowledge of meat inspection, food safety, and export requirements.
