About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja, a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in partnership with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking a dedicated Non-Medical Waste Management Operator. In this vital role, you will ensure the safe, efficient collection, segregation, transportation, and disposal of non-medical waste while maintaining strict compliance with environmental and hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities- Identify, properly segregate, and collect non-medical waste including general, recyclable, organic, confidential, and e-waste across the hospital.
- Operate and maintain waste transport equipment, compactors, balers, and recycling machinery safely and efficiently.
- Handle confidential waste securely in compliance with data protection regulations and hospital policies.
- Clean, sanitize, and manage waste containers, bins, and storage areas while maintaining accurate daily logs and inventory.
- Assist in routine monitoring and maintenance of hospital sewage, wastewater systems, and effluent quality parameters.
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental protocols, utilizing appropriate PPE and reporting any hazards immediately.
- Minimum of a Diploma in a relevant field, with vocational training or HSE certification being an added advantage.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in waste handling, environmental support, or janitorial services, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Strong understanding of waste segregation principles, recycling protocols, and local environmental regulations.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate documentation, reporting, and record-keeping.
- Ability to operate basic cleaning, compaction, and transport equipment safely.
