About the Role
HBM Nigeria Plc (Formerly Lafarge), a leading name in building solutions and a member of the LafargeHolcim group, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team in Ewekoro, Ogun State. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of our quarry, delivering high-quality raw materials to the crushers while upholding our strict Health and Safety standards. You will manage explosive and diesel stocks, liaise with regulatory authorities, and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams including Drill and Blast, Overburden, and Quarry Operations to achieve ambitious production targets.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce comprehensive safety action plans, weekly safety briefings, and audits aligned with regional Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS).
- Coordinate and monitor drilling and blasting designs, ensuring optimal utilization of production drilling equipment and wall control.
- Supervise daily production equipment, pre-start checks, and blast pattern inspections to achieve desired rock fragmentation.
- Define daily mining strategies encompassing grade control drilling, blasting, and load-and-haul operations.
- Optimize crusher feed blending to meet budget targets, manage overburden movement, and oversee haul road and waste dump conditions.
- Collaborate with the mine planner and maintenance teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues and adjust blasting parameters based on rock hardness.
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
- 4 to 5 years of relevant open-pit mining or quarrying experience.
- Strong practical expertise in drilling and blasting operations, quarry production, and mine planning.
- Comprehensive knowledge of blast design, optimization, quality control, and regulatory compliance standards in Nigeria.
