About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Officer to support the implementation of the I-Youth 2.0 MEL framework and monitoring plan in Nigeria. Based at our headquarters in Ibadan, you will play a crucial role in tracking program activities, outputs, and outcomes to advance agricultural research for development across Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Track program activities, outputs, outcomes, and indicators against approved workplans and targets.
  • Maintain and regularly update Nigeria's indicator tracking tools, performance records, and databases.
  • Conduct routine monitoring visits to project locations to verify implementation progress and validate reported results.
  • Coordinate the timely collection, collation, review, and validation of program data from field teams and partners.
  • Support baseline, midline, endline, tracer studies, and other assessments coordinated by the M/E Manager.
  • Analyze routine program data and provide accurate, timely MEL inputs for monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports.
  • Document implementation lessons, good practices, challenges, and emerging results to support evidence-based decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in agriculture, youth employment, entrepreneurship, livelihoods, or related development programs.
  • Proficiency in digital data collection tools, databases, and modern data management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to data quality and integrity.
  • Excellent report-writing, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to travel regularly across project locations in Nigeria.
