About the Role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital offering world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment in oncology, cardiovascular, and haematological care. Developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist – Immunophenotyping to provide specialist clinical flow cytometry services supporting the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of patients with complex hematological conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform, analyze, and interpret complex flow cytometry assays for stem cell analysis, leukemia, lymphoma, and related immunophenotyping applications.
  • Ensure the highest standard of diagnostic accuracy by providing timely interpretations of findings to support reports authorized by consultant hematologists.
  • Run, monitor, and evaluate Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assurance (EQA) samples in compliance with ISO 15189:2022 standards.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain flow cytometers and associated laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accurate inventory logs.
  • Provide comprehensive training, mentorship, and competency assessments to junior laboratory staff and medical technicians.
  • Collaborate closely with the Laboratory Manager, clinical scientists, and the multidisciplinary clinical team to drive diagnostic excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a closely related field with a current practicing license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on clinical experience in a flow cytometry laboratory within a specialist hematology setting.
  • Specialist certification in flow cytometry or immunophenotyping is highly desirable.
  • Proven expertise in method development, validation, and advanced troubleshooting of flow cytometry assays.
  • Solid understanding of ISO 15189 quality standards and proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.
