About the Role
University of Ilesa - UNILESA Teaching Hospital is a premier healthcare institution formed by the Osun State government through the strategic upgrade of the historic Ilesa General Hospital. We are currently seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Medical Consultant specialising in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology to join our esteemed medical team. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert clinical diagnostic services, contribute to the academic development of medical students, and lead infection control protocols to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert consultative services in medical microbiology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and hospital-acquired infection control.
- Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the processing and reporting of diagnostic tests.
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention programs across the hospital.
- Participate in clinical ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and complex case discussions to guide patient management.
- Teach and mentor undergraduate medical students, resident doctors, and other allied healthcare professionals.
- Conduct impactful clinical and translational research to advance the department's academic standing.
- Possess a primary medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPath) or West African Postgraduate Medical College (FWACP) in Medical Microbiology, or an equivalent recognized professional qualification.
- Current practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of post-fellowship clinical and academic experience in a reputable teaching hospital or tertiary health institution.
