About the Role
West African Exploration and Production Company (WAEP) is a leading indigenous energy company headquartered in Lagos State, Nigeria, dedicated to safe, efficient, and sustainable hydrocarbon exploration and production. We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Marine Technician to join our dynamic offshore operations. In this critical role, you will operate, monitor, and support the maintenance of marine systems to ensure maximum equipment reliability and strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and basic corrective maintenance on assigned marine equipment and systems.
- Support the maintenance of winches, capstans, mooring equipment, pumps, hydraulic systems, and other marine auxiliary equipment.
- Inspect equipment condition, identify defects, and promptly report abnormalities or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Assist with marine equipment testing, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement in accordance with approved operational procedures.
- Support safe cargo, lifting, mooring, and transfer activities within assigned competency and authorization limits.
- Maintain tools, spare parts, and comprehensive maintenance records while providing accurate equipment status updates.
- Collaborate with vessel crews, offshore maintenance teams, and marine supervisors during troubleshooting and complex repairs.
- Execute all daily tasks strictly under Permit to Work (PTW), isolation, toolbox-talk, and HSE compliance guidelines.
- Participate actively in emergency drills and marine response activities as assigned by management.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and equipment preservation across all marine work areas.
- HND or Technical Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 8-12 years of relevant marine technical or offshore maintenance experience, preferably within the oil and gas sector.
- Possession of relevant offshore safety, marine technical, STCW, or trade certifications is highly desirable.
- Strong core competencies in marine mechanical systems, hydraulic equipment, mooring and deck equipment, and technical troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated commitment to strict HSE standards, Permit to Work (PTW) protocols, and maintenance documentation best practices.
