About the Role
International Facilities Services Limited (IFS) is a leading global facilities management company delivering cost-effective and innovative hard and soft FM solutions across Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Lift Operator to join our dynamic engineering team in Nigeria. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and first-line response for our site's vertical transportation fleet, including passenger lifts, service elevators, and stage/theatrical lifts, ensuring seamless and secure mobility for all building occupants and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and monitor passenger lifts, dumbwaiters, and stage elevators during daily business operations and special events to ensure smooth and secure transit.
- Conduct rigorous daily visual and functional inspections, including checking door operations, call buttons, emergency intercoms, pit conditions, and cabin safety features.
- Provide rapid first-line response to lift faults, breakdowns, and passenger entrapments while strictly adhering to established emergency protocols.
- Perform basic mechanical and electrical fault-finding, such as resolving minor door sensor issues or control panel errors within your technical competence.
- Collaborate closely with COREN-certified lift maintenance subcontractors during scheduled preventive planned maintenance (PPM) visits and compliance audits.
- Maintain comprehensive digital logs of lift usage, maintenance activities, and emergency callouts using the facility's CAFM/CMMS platform.
- Strictly enforce and follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), safe isolation, and permit-to-work procedures at all times without exception.
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in operating, monitoring, or supporting the maintenance of elevators and vertical transport systems within commercial or institutional settings.
- Solid understanding of lift safety mechanisms, including overspeed governors, safety gears, emergency stops, and fire service operations.
- Working familiarity with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) or CAFM applications.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, methodical, and decisive under pressure during emergency entrapment scenarios.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, be on standby, and respond promptly to out-of-hours emergency call-outs.
