About the Role
CredPal is an innovative fintech solution committed to simplifying the loan approval process and empowering individuals to make seamless purchases with reduced financial pressure. We are currently looking for a dynamic and results-oriented Lead, Legal & Recovery to take full ownership of our legal recovery strategy and execution.
In this hands-on, commercially driven role, you will go beyond traditional legal opinions to actively manage delinquent, high-risk, and difficult-to-collect accounts. You will move decisively from demand and negotiation to legal escalation, external recovery, field action, litigation, settlement, and enforcement to deliver measurable financial outcomes for the business.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute aggressive, structured recovery strategies across delinquency buckets, high-value exposures, and written-off portfolios.
- Determine appropriate legal recovery routes, ensuring timely escalation through demand notices, litigation, and enforcement mechanisms.
- Manage and hold external law firms, recovery agencies, and field agents accountable to strict targets and timelines.
- Lead complex negotiations with delinquent customers and structure commercially viable repayment plans.
- Collaborate closely with Collections, Credit, Risk, and Finance teams to ensure seamless escalation and compliance with Nigerian laws and regulations.
- Provide weekly recovery reports to management showing portfolio movement, recoveries achieved, and key risks.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and B.L, with active admission to the Nigerian Bar.
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-call experience in debt recovery, commercial litigation, banking, or fintech services.
- Demonstrable track record of successfully recovering significant delinquent or difficult debt portfolios.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian lending, credit, contract, insolvency, and consumer-protection frameworks.
- Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder-management skills with a firm, target-driven mindset.
