About the Role

Obek Group of Companies Limited (OBEK Group) is a leading Nigerian and Houston-based international conglomerate operating across manufacturing, agriculture, construction, energy services, and large-scale EPCIC projects. We are currently seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Legal Operations to lead our four-person Legal Services team as senior lawyer and company secretary. In this pivotal role, you will own contract risk, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and dispute resolution end-to-end, while running the legal department as an efficient, charged-out profit center to accelerate deal closures and protect our licence to operate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve and maintain 100% contract coverage across all revenue streams prior to operational mobilization.
  • Lead the baseline legal audit and execute a Board-reported remediation plan within the first 90 days.
  • Manage complex EPCIC contract structures, including FIDIC and bespoke agreements, subcontract flow-downs, and joint venture partnerships.
  • Oversee company secretarial practices under CAMA 2020, ensuring flawless board machinery and statutory compliance.
  • Navigate regulatory perimeters with key agencies such as NUPRC, NMDPRA, NCDMB, NDPA 2023, and FCCPC.
  • Direct disputes strategy, external counsel panels, and legal profit-centre management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and qualification to practice law in Nigeria (BL).
  • Extensive senior-level experience in Nigerian law practice, specifically covering energy, construction, and corporate commercial sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing multi-disciplinary legal teams and operating legal departments as profit centres.
  • Deep understanding of public-sector contracting, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance standards.
  • Exceptional board-grade drafting, negotiation, and written advocacy skills.
