About the Role
HR Aid Consults is seeking an exceptional and hands-on Lead Java Engineer to join our dynamic team in Nigeria. In this pivotal role, you will set the engineering standard for our Java estate, demonstrate excellence through a reference implementation, and hold design authority over vital external applications subsystems including payment gateways, USSD integration, and geospatial analytics modules.
Key Responsibilities- Define and enforce engineering standards for the Java estate, covering service templates, project structures, error contracts, and logging formats.
- Implement automated packaging and handoff standards using GitLab CI pipeline templates, container images, and parameterized Helm charts.
- Build and deliver complex subsystems end-to-end, acting as the primary reference implementation for other engineering teams.
- Hold ultimate design authority over External Applications subsystems through stringent review gates and architectural assessments.
- Provide technical direction for demanding integrations, such as national settlement payment gateways and synchronous USSD gateway sessions.
- Mentor and develop the internal Java team and nominated technical leads to foster independent leadership and engineering excellence.
- Extensive principal-level experience with Java and Spring Boot in production systems operating at tier-one or national scale.
- Demonstrated success in setting and enforcing cross-team engineering standards through robust tooling and governance gates.
- Proven ability to design packaging contracts for seamless deployments via Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps without direct production access.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL at scale and event-driven integration patterns, focusing on idempotency and dead-letter handling.
- Desirable background includes experience with payment rails, telecommunication integrations like USSD or SMPP, Keycloak, and national identity platforms.
