About the Role
Heirs Insurance is transforming the insurance industry by delivering simple, accessible protection for vehicles, homes, businesses, and more. We're seeking an experienced Kotlin Integration Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust event-driven connectors that power our platform.
Key Responsibilities- Design and build event-driven connectors in Kotlin using Quarkus and Apache Camel, following DSF connector architecture
- Own connectors end-to-end: development, integration testing, deployment, observability, and production support
- Integrate third-party and internal APIs with production-grade security (OAuth, JWT, request signing, mTLS)
- Implement reliability patterns including idempotency, retries with backoff, dead-letter handling, and Kafka consumer strategies
- Develop automated unit and integration tests using QuarkusTest, Testcontainers, and WireMock
- Build and deploy containerised applications using Docker and CI/CD pipelines with Kubernetes support
- Collaborate with engineering teams on event catalogues, schema versioning, and messaging standards
- Produce technical documentation, specifications, runbooks, and support materials
- Minimum 4 years JVM backend engineering experience with strong Kotlin development skills
- Proven production experience with Apache Kafka, consumer groups, and message reliability
- Hands-on experience with Apache Camel, Spring Integration, or MuleSoft
- Experience building services with Quarkus, Spring Boot, or Micronaut
- Practical API security implementation (OAuth, JWT, TLS, credential management)
- Docker and CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Strong automated and integration testing expertise
Preferred: Banking/fintech integration experience, Kubernetes administration, Redis caching, Kong API gateway, Datadog monitoring, or regulated industry experience.
