About the Role
American International School of Lagos (AISL) is seeking an experienced Internal Controls, Risk and Compliance Officer to strengthen our organizational governance and operational oversight. This independent position evaluates and manages organizational risk, ensures regulatory compliance, and maintains the integrity of our financial and operational systems while supporting our mission to deliver excellence in education.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain comprehensive risk registers, conducting periodic risk assessments in collaboration with school leadership
- Conduct independent audits of financial records and activities, preparing detailed reports for the Superintendent
- Establish and monitor procurement planning, tendering processes, and cost-control measures
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, national regulations, and international standards including GDPR
- Document key business processes and evaluate the adequacy of internal control systems
- Investigate irregularities, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions and operational improvements
- Oversee data protection strategy implementation and compliance oversight
- Liaise with external auditors during year-end financial audits
- Advise school leadership on audit, internal control, and governance matters
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field with equivalent professional experience
- Proven expertise in internal auditing, risk management, and compliance frameworks
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian laws and professional auditing standards
- Advanced technology proficiency and data analysis capabilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong presentation abilities
- Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
- Knowledge of enterprise risk management and GDPR compliance requirements
