About the Role
Coronation Merchant Bank, a dynamic emerging merchant banking franchise in Nigeria, seeks an accomplished Chief Economist to lead our economic research and market intelligence function. In this strategic role, you will provide critical macroeconomic insights that inform the Bank's investment decisions, lending strategies, and advisory services while representing the institution at industry forums and investor briefings.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive macroeconomic research, forecasting, and analysis covering Nigerian and global markets
- Develop and publish economic reports, market commentary, and thought leadership pieces that establish the Bank's market position
- Advise Executive Management and the Board on macroeconomic trends and their strategic business implications
- Monitor fiscal and monetary policy developments, assessing impact on Bank strategy and operations
- Support Treasury, Investment Banking, and business teams with economic insights for informed decision-making
- Represent the Bank at industry forums, media engagements, and investor briefings
- Build, mentor, and lead the economic research team to deliver excellence
- Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, or related field (Master's or PhD preferred)
- 8+ years' experience in economic research within banking, asset management, multilateral institutions, or policy organizations
- Expert knowledge of the Nigerian economy, fiscal and monetary policy, and financial markets
- Proven track record of published research and public economic analysis
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with media engagement experience
- Strong leadership capability and stakeholder management expertise
