About the Role
The Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a leading women-led Nigerian NGO dedicated to improving community access to healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. We are currently seeking a talented, integrity-driven Internal Audit Officer to join our dynamic team in Abuja on a full-time basis. This merit-based role is designed for a dedicated professional eager to add value to our internal control systems and ensure optimal accountability across all donor-funded projects.
Key Responsibilities- Perform pre- and post-reviews of all financial expenditures and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate and contribute to the improvement of WEWE internal control processes, risk management, and governance frameworks.
- Conduct monthly reviews of financial records, reports, and bank reconciliation statements.
- Safeguard organizational and donor assets while ensuring inventory records remain accurate and up-to-date.
- Identify potential risks, investigate fraudulent practices, and report findings with actionable recommendations to management.
- Prepare comprehensive audit results, findings memoranda, and final audit reports.
- Conduct follow-up audits to monitor management interventions and deliver periodic fraud awareness training to staff.
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting or a related social science field, with a Second Class Upper (2:1) or Upper Credit preferred.
- Must be a full member of ICAN or hold an equivalent professional certification.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of auditing experience within an established audit firm or local NGO environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with compliance standards for international donors such as USAID and Ford Foundation is a distinct advantage.
