About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Nigeria. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our agricultural research for development (R4D) initiatives by ensuring all heavy machinery and utility vehicles remain fully operational and reliable.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and receive work assignments for maintenance services in collaboration with the heavy equipment superintendent.
- Schedule preventive maintenance and conduct thorough safety inspections for equipment and trucks.
- Minimize downtime through constant inspection, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical defects in heavy earth-moving equipment, diesel/petrol trucks, and generators.
- Carry out spot checks to guarantee optimum performance and ensure equipment availability prior to deployment.
- Maintain comprehensive records of equipment maintenance and spare parts inventory.
- Monitor and supervise the operational activities of subordinate technical staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Possession of an HND or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience in heavy equipment operations, maintenance, or supervision.
- Proven expertise in the repair, overhauling, and maintenance of earth-moving equipment, heavy-duty trucks, tractors, and generators.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills with the ability to manage technical teams effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities under pressure.
- Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
