About the Role
Wema Bank Plc is seeking a strategic and results-driven Head of Public Sector to lead our public sector banking initiatives across the South-South and Mid-West regions. In this critical leadership role, you will spearhead deposit mobilization, high-level government relationship management, revenue optimization, and risk management within a competitive financial landscape.
Key Responsibilities- Lead aggressive deposit growth and liquidity acquisition from state and local governments, ministries, agencies, parastatals, and public institutions.
- Serve as the primary liaison with state executives, commissioners, permanent secretaries, and revenue boards to secure collections mandates and IGR optimization partnerships.
- Oversee the assessment, structuring, and monitoring of public sector credit exposures, including ISPO-backed facilities, contract finance, and infrastructure financing.
- Drive operational efficiency and promote the adoption of digital banking platforms, TSA-compliant systems, and automated revenue collection tools.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a region-wide Public Sector Banking team to achieve ambitious performance metrics while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related fields; a Master's degree or professional certification (ACIB, ICAN, PMP) is an advantage.
- 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in public sector or corporate banking, with at least 5 years in a senior team leadership role.
- Comprehensive understanding of government financial operations, IGR processes, public sector ecosystems, and liquidity management in Nigeria.
- Proven track record of successfully negotiating and closing high-value public sector deals and financial mandates.
- Exceptional relationship management, stakeholder influence, negotiation, credit structuring, and strategic execution skills.
