About the Role
The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations, building trust and understanding between the UK and countries worldwide. We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of English and School Education to join our team in Kano, Nigeria. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert support and strategic advice to drive the development and delivery of high-impact English language and school education projects, forging strong partnerships with government bodies and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the strategic planning, design, and implementation of English and School Education programmes in alignment with global British Council standards.
- Drive business development initiatives, contributing to technical proposal writing, donor engagement, and securing new client-funded contracts.
- Manage, mentor, and build the capacity of the English and School Education team, ensuring high performance and adherence to organizational policies.
- Establish and maintain robust relationships with key educational stakeholders, government officials, multilateral agencies, and donors.
- Oversee financial management, budgeting, and commercial performance reporting for the assigned portfolio of projects.
- Embed evidence-informed principles of English language teaching and inclusive education into project designs and teacher training content.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field such as Education, Applied Linguistics, or English Language Teaching (e.g., Diploma ELT / TEFL-Q).
- Recognized professional qualification in English language teaching.
- Extensive experience managing English language-focused teacher education projects and delivering externally funded programmes.
- Demonstrated success in client-funded contract pursuit and business development.
- Proven track record of engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders including government officials, donors, and academic institutions.
- Desirable attributes include project management certification and experience managing online teacher education initiatives.
