About the Role
The British Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of English and School Education to join our vibrant team in Abuja, Nigeria. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert guidance and strategic direction to shape our education and English language teaching programmes, building enduring cultural relations and trust between the UK and Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the strategic planning, design, and implementation of innovative English and school education projects in alignment with global British Council frameworks.
- Manage business development initiatives, contributing to technical proposal writing and identifying lucrative opportunities with donors and government partners.
- Provide robust leadership, mentorship, and line management to the English and School Education (ESE) team, ensuring compliance and high performance.
- Forge and maintain strong professional networks and stakeholder relationships with key government officials, academic institutions, and multilateral agencies.
- Oversee financial management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes to ensure project impact and adherence to budgetary targets.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field such as Education, English Language Teaching, or a related discipline (e.g., Diploma ELT / TEFL-Q).
- Extensive experience managing English language-focused teacher education projects and delivering externally funded programmes.
- Proven track record in client-funded contract pursuit and successful business development within the education sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in engaging with diverse high-level stakeholders, including government officials and international donors.
