About the Role
Moniepoint Inc. is a leading financial technology company digitising Africa's real economy by building an all-encompassing financial ecosystem for businesses. Monnify, our online payment acceptance platform, connects merchants to card networks, banks, and aggregators while providing robust tools and APIs for seamless digital transactions. As our Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway, you will spearhead the technical direction of this critical infrastructure, ensuring high reliability, top-tier security, and an exceptional developer experience as we scale multi-currency and multi-market operations.
Key Responsibilities- Own the full technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify platform across Payment In, Payout, and Commerce Tools.
- Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, establishing rigorous quality standards and driving organizational capability.
- Drive the end-to-end developer experience, optimizing APIs, documentation, SDKs, and integration ease for technical and non-technical users.
- Lead platform evolution toward multi-currency support and international scalability within a heavily regulated environment.
- Partner closely with product, commercial, and operations teams to align technical investments with overarching business goals.
- Over 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles.
- At least 5 years of hands-on, production-level experience writing and shipping Java code.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing engineering managers within scaling organizations.
- Strong backend expertise in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL.
- Demonstrated background in payments, fintech, or financial services, with a deep understanding of API-first products and compliance.
- Own the core payments infrastructure for a high-growth company processing billions in annual transaction volume.
- Work in a technically demanding, mission-driven environment expanding financial access across emerging markets.
- Collaborate with elite engineering teams driven by ownership, customer obsession, and engineering craft.
