About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic legal professional to join our prestigious financial institution as the Head, Legal. In this vital leadership role, you will provide strategic legal advisory services, ensure effective risk management, oversee complex contracts, and direct regulatory compliance and corporate legal affairs. You will be instrumental in supporting Management and the Board in making sound, legally compliant business decisions while robustly safeguarding the organization's interests in Nigeria's vibrant financial sector.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic legal advice to Management and the Board on business operations, corporate matters, and transactional growth.
- Review, draft, and negotiate high-stakes contracts, agreements, and comprehensive legal documentation.
- Ensure the institution maintains strict compliance with all applicable Nigerian laws, regulatory requirements, and statutory directives.
- Manage external litigation, claims, disputes, and relationships with retained external solicitors.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks affecting the bank's daily operations.
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop a high-performing internal Legal team.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and mandatory BL qualification called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant post-call experience, including a senior or managerial legal role within the financial sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in banking, microfinance, fintech, or regulated financial services environments.
- Proven proficiency in commercial contracts, litigation management, regulatory compliance, and legal risk mitigation.
- Possession of an LL.M or relevant professional certifications in corporate commercial law will be an added advantage.
