About the Role
La Fayette Microfinance Bank Limited (Advans Nigeria) is a leading financial institution dedicated to empowering MSMEs across Nigeria with accessible credit and comprehensive banking services. We are currently seeking a strategic, proactive, and results-driven Head, Legal to lead our legal department and safeguard the organization's legal and regulatory standing.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert legal advisory services to Management and the Board of Directors on all business matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and corporate legal documents.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable Nigerian laws, regulations, and regulatory directives governing the microfinance banking sector.
- Manage litigation, alternative dispute resolution processes, and relationships with external solicitors.
- Provide robust legal support for loan recovery and debt enforcement activities to minimize financial exposure.
- Review operational policies, procedures, and products to ensure absolute legal adequacy.
- Monitor changes in national legislation and regulatory policies affecting the microfinance and banking industry.
- Coordinate corporate governance activities, board secretariat duties, and statutory filings.
- Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate legal risks across all branches and operational units.
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B).
- Barrister-at-Law (BL) qualification from the Nigerian Law School.
- Active membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of post-call legal experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or management role.
- Prior working experience in financial services, commercial banking, or the microfinance industry is a strong advantage.
