About the Role
AAVA Brands Ltd, a prominent member of Chanrai Summit Group with operations dating back to 1890, connects world-class consumer brands to the Nigerian market. We are currently seeking a dynamic and corporate-minded Legal Manager to join our growing team in Nigeria. In this pivotal role, you will take full ownership of our expanding commercial portfolio, focusing specifically on managing warehouses and logistics facilities rented from third-party landlords. Your primary objective will be to de-risk our leasehold portfolio, handle aggressive landlord-tenant negotiations, and ensure our properties fully support our supply chain operations in strict compliance with Nigerian property laws.
Key Responsibilities- Draft, review, and negotiate comprehensive commercial agreements, including leases, deeds of sublease, and supplier contracts, ensuring favorable terms for rent reviews and service charges.
- Act as the primary liaison with third-party landlords, facility managers, and estate agents to swiftly resolve conflicts regarding structural repairs, common areas, and utility allocations.
- Ensure all leased warehouses comply with state-specific urban planning regulations, such as LASBCA guidelines, and relevant environmental and safety standards.
- Administer tenancy laws, managing statutory notices, lease renewals, and exits in accordance with the Tenancy Law of Lagos State and applicable jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with the finance team to validate annual rent, caution fees, and service charges while ensuring correct processing of Withholding Tax and stamp duties.
- Mitigate legal risks and represent corporate interests in preliminary dispute resolutions to avoid protracted litigation.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited university and a Barrister-at-Law (B.L) certificate from the Nigerian Law School.
- Active call to the Nigerian Bar and good standing with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
- Minimum of 3 years of post-call experience specializing in commercial real estate transactions, corporate tenancy management, or property law in Nigeria.
- Proficiency in Nigerian land law procedures, contract drafting, and stakeholder communication.
