About the Role
International Facilities Services Limited (IFS) is a premier international facilities management company operating to global standards across Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Generator Technician specialising in CAT and Perkins platforms to join our dynamic engineering team in Nigeria. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining continuous, reliable power systems within a complex, 24/7 high-footfall facility, ensuring seamless operations alongside grid, solar hybrid, and UPS power sources.
Key Responsibilities- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance weekly, minor, and major servicing on industrial diesel generator sets ranging from 500 kVA to 1,500 kVA+ following OEM guidelines.
- Conduct routine inspections on oil, coolant, fuel levels, battery voltage, exhaust systems, and perform auto-start exercise run tests.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system faults, including AMF and ATS panels, delivering prompt first-line repairs.
- Support load bank testing, injector calibration, and fuel management systems to maintain optimal standby readiness.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and defect reports using the facility's CMMS/CAFM digital platform.
- Respond promptly to emergency power failure call-outs and adhere strictly to safe isolation, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and safety protocols at all times.
- OND, HND, or Trade Test Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing industrial diesel generators, with specific expertise in CAT and Perkins engine platforms.
- Working knowledge of AMF/ATS control panels, load bank testing, and basic power management systems.
- Manufacturer-recognised technical training or certifications in CAT or Perkins equipment will be a distinct advantage.
- Strong diagnostic skills with a methodical, safety-first approach and physical fitness to work in demanding plant-room environments.
- Willingness to work on shifts, be on-call, and handle emergency call-outs outside normal working hours.
