About the Role
International Alert is seeking a dedicated Finance Assistant to join our Abuja office on a 10-month contract. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting peaceful solutions to conflict by ensuring the effective, transparent, and compliant management of our financial operations and administrative processes.
Key Responsibilities- Review payment requests and supporting documents for completeness and proper authorization while preparing payment vouchers and maintaining cashbooks.
- Ensure timely retirement and reconciliation of staff advances, petty cash, and monthly financial closures.
- Support procurement processes, including obtaining quotations, preparing bid analysis, and maintaining the assets register.
- Monitor expenditures, ensure compliance with donor requirements (e.g., FCDO, EU, USAID), and maintain auditable project documentation.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing requested financial documentation and adhering to safeguarding and anti-fraud policies.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of professional finance or accounting experience, preferably within an NGO or international organization; ICAN certification is a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Dynamics, Microsoft Navision, SAGA, or QuickBooks, alongside advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proven experience managing donor-funded projects, particularly EU-funded grants, with a strong understanding of compliance and reporting requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong numerical skills, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with absolute integrity.
